Tesco County leagues mid-week action this week so two games fall foul to the weather but one game did go ahead in the Smurfit Kappa Conway cup
Quarter final between Windscale and Aspatria played under the lights at the Falcon ground and it was the visitors who took control to open up a two nil half time lead with strikes from Malcolm Graham and Richard Hudson the game stayed that way until the last minute when Aspatria scored twice more through Steve Wilson and another Malcolm Graham strike to make it Windscale 0 Aspatria 4
Saturday so the Focsa Ken Glover Memorial Shield dominate the fixtures with five games going ahead. Aspatria carried on where they left off in mid week with a much closer three two win to first div Wigton Ath that man Richard Hudson was again on target and with two own goals wigton athletic replied through Chris Tiffin and Dale Wilson. Aspatria 3 Wigton Athletic 2 There was another close encounter at Cleator where Cleator Moor Celtic went down to a last minute goal form Mike Bell to give Warwick Wanders the result and move them into the quarter finals. Cleator Moor Celtic 0 Warwick Wanders 1 Moresby also saw a close game where inform first div side Silloth where the visitors Bransty playing with the ever versatile Eddie Holliday in goals started the game well and held the inform silloth to a scoreless draw at half time however in the second half the first division side showed glimpses for why they are the inform team and took the lead through Adam Carr in the fourty nineth minute. The game was seemingly put safe in the sixty fifth minute when a great individual goal from Andy Hardman eluded the Bransty goalkeeper to score at the near post two nil and silloth cruising but Bransty,s never say die attitude gave them a reward in the eighty eigth min when messers Starkie struck and give Silloth a very nervey last few minutes. div Harraby Catholic Club with the score going in favour of the home side M.Hafran scored a hatrick with Jackson Relph and James Carruthers also on the score sheet Harraby replying through Villa and Armstrong Cockermouth 5 Harraby Catholic club 2. The final game in the shield was played at miners ground between Whitehaven Miners and Longtown. Longtown proving far too strong on the day with an emphatic eight nil score line messers Storey banging in a hatrick with close behind braces from Bell and Phillips, Graham completing the scoring. The Premier Division also had action with Wigton Harriers coming out on top against FC 32 who had come into the game on the back of two excellent results however Wigton Harriers was having none it with Mike Rideing scoring a hatrick he obviously hadn't read the script. Wigton Harriers 3 FC-32 0 The final premier league game saw Netherhall take a giant step to regaining the title with a three one win at Carlisle AFC this after Carlisle takeing the lead after only three minutes through Shaun Allonby however Netherhall began to take charge and created numerous chances before the prolific Keith Anderson scored aided soon after by Andrew Lowes to make it two one at the break. The second half calmed down with only one goal through Nick Holder to warm Netherhall up nicely for their county cup semi final this coming week end. Carlisle AFC 1 Netherhall 3. Finally down into the first div there was two games played the first a derby match at moorclose between high flying Borough and South Workington. Borough having to thank Steve Kirkbride and Garath Young for coming out on top and keeping their promotion hopes on track in a very close encounter Alex Roberts making sure it stayed close replied for South Workington. South Workington 1 Borough 2. The other game in the firstt div was not so close as Carlisle City took on Parton and did their title chances a power of good with a seven nil victory.
