Tesco Cumberland County Football League only had two games this weekend as all others were called off during Friday or Saturday morning, it would have been one game if Borough never gave up home advantage to play on the astro at Netherhall, the pair clashed in the Focsa Ken Glover Memorial Shield and it was Netherhall that took full advantage of the switch with a win to move them in to the next round. Ben Byers, Keith Anderson and Chris Dawes scored the goals, Netherhall lead 1 - 0 at the break but two second half goals sealed the win Borough 0 Netherhall 3 played at Netherhall.
Workington Red House and Frizington White Star was the only other game played, the home side proved two strong for their visitors Barry Armfield and Craig Clemence netted for White Star but Red House hit back as Liam Cooke hit two as did sixteen year old and man of the match Liam Wood, Stuart Gray Adam Johnston Tom Pardini all hit one each as it finished Workington Red House 7 Frizington White Star 2
At a recent management meeting Vice Chairman and Press officer Herbert Briggs told his fellow committee members it his intention to step down from the Tesco Cumberland County League, I had hoped this new league would be starting in 2012/13 but it does not look as thou it will and I always said I would walk away if that never happened added a despondent Briggs, plus I feel it is time for me to go as I have been their since the 1998/99 season and 12 year is along time and I think it is time for a change of direction. I have had twelve good years and meet some very interesting people in my time with the league.
I have to laugh thou as some people said it would not work as myself and Steve McMahon would not get on and here we are all those years later and look me and him are still talking, Chairman Graham Young thanked Herbert Briggs for his time with the league and hoped he would think things over and perhaps stay on as a none working member as he does not want to lose my knowledge of local football.
But Briggs who works for Carlisle based C FM Radio covering local sport and holds the position of Secretary and Press Officer for Cleator Moor Celtic first team added I appreciate what has been said but I think at this time it is time to move on and step down and that's what I intend to do come May. Iknow I will miss it as I have done it for a long time I have held the Chairman's seat Fixture Sec and Vice Chairman and Press officer for 12 years, but I am sure my role at Celtic wiil take some of my spare time up added a joking Briggs
