shock and awe as the saints second string march on through cockermouth !
Rock bottom stbees reserves made the brave decision to switch there home advantage to high flying cockermouth fc in the smurfitt kappa conway cup . In the wet windy conditions the stbees outfit started really well against the wind , keeping possession well and it soon paid off when a through ball from the hard working jonny rudd swirled in the area and struck the hand of the cockermouth centre half leaving the ref no choice but to point at the spot . Ryan Benson stepped up and converted the penalty making it three goals in two outings for him . again it was stbees mounting on the pressure with the old skooler Neil woodburn peppering the area with crosses from the right hand side which eventually lead to the bees second goal as a cross floated and came back off the upper bar confusing everyone in the area apart from the alert David crowe who struck a volley from the whole of two yards . that remained the score line at the interval . the half time talk from the cockermouth manager must have been brutal as they started the second half as bees did the first dominating possession , but the solid pairing of bryan cass and Oliver telfor at the back kept them out of the danger areas . after a string of fine saves from the stbees number one Robert miller the ball was cleared down the field leaving the young ryan walker one on one with the cockermouth keeper , and sent him left while slotting the ball in the bottom right to surely seal the win . but with only eight minutes to go cockermouth smashed home a goal from the edge of the box and rattled a second two minutes later but it turned out to be too little too late as the final whistle went confirming the well deserved victory for the underdogs , stbees would like to thank cockermouth for the option of a switch and the hospitality afterwards
